APEX Data Loading: was it supposed to be easy?

Both developers and clients love how simple it is to get data out of APEX. The developer specifies the data source, and the customer can download it in a format of their choosing. But then they expect to simply import that data back into the database, and complain “why is this so difficult?” Why should asking for “just one more feature” balloon the development estimate by several weeks or more? As developers we know this is not trivial: it requires parsing unpredictable CSV and Excel files, interpreting and validating the data, and importing it into the database in a stable fashion. We’d prefer to use a better data interchange standard but sometimes CSV and Excel files are all they have to offer. In this talk I will survey current methods for loading data from CSV and Excel files in APEX, and describe three different solutions implemented. After this, you will have a roadmap for choosing a reasonable solution for each situation you may encounter.

A dozen things to do with APEX – using 3 of the best features

As APEX matures, so does my usage of the product, especially with features that have been around for a long time. This session will explore the usage of 3 of my favourite features you’ve no doubt heard about before, but in ways you may not have thought to use them. Dynamic actions are a clear favourite, but how do I use them on a daily basis, now that I’ve had lots of practice? Build options are underrated, in my humble opinion. I have 3 use cases for you to consider. The REQUEST value. Yup, I’m really going with this one. Documented uses typically relate to the submission process, while you could also be using it to parameterise workflow. I’m going to cover 3 uses of each feature, so be prepared to come out of this session with a dozen new ideas.

SQLdb360: The NextGen of Performance Diagnostics replacing SQLHC and SQLTXPLAIN?

SQLdb360 is a new and free open-source performance diagnostics toolset comprising of two complementing tools, eDB360 and SQLd360. (1) eDB360 is database-wide health check and diagnosis tool complementing Exacheck, raccheck and oracheck. (2) SQd360 on the other hand is a performance diagnostic tool for a single SQL. The tools are authored by ex Oracle and Enkitec staff, Carlos Sierra and Mauro Pagano. Both tools are non-intrusive and can run on the source database without installing anything on the database, producing a set of files for offline diagnostics review using a HTML browser or text editor. Some of the information gathered includes AWR, ASH amd ADDM reports depending on licensing. They can be use independent of each other. This presentation will demonstrate what the tools are, how to use them and review their outputs. One of the helpful features of both tools is that they use Google charts libraries to produce effective charts and diagrams to present the raw data in an easy to understand format.

Bringing Real World Data into Healthcare Practice

Objective: Provide an overview of Healthcare IT with the focus on data and data integration While healthcare is information-intensive the information collected at points of care is typically siloed in healthcare enterprises and inaccessible to clinicians in other healthcare enterprises that manage the same patients. This causes duplication of effort, over ordering of tests, gaps in continuity of care and other issues, both clinical safety-related, cost-related and efficiencies-related. Overview of issues of data and data integration in healthcare is provided as context. Objective: Provide an overview of My Health Record standards, technologies and Oracle’s role Over the years, individuals and organisation in the healthcare industry worked on developing and implementing standards and standards-based technology solution to enable healthcare data sharing, research and clinical practise use of healthcare data. Some of the standards and technologies are widely deployed while others are emerging and ginning acceptance. Three healthcare data representation and data exchange standards are discussed to provide a timeline of innovation spanning over 2 years, and discuss developments. Australia’s My Health Record well be discussed as an example of Oracle healthcare-specific technologies enabling National scale Health Information Exchange platform. Objective: Introduce Oracle Technologies for Healthcare Data Sharing and Data Aggregation Presentation will conclude with the healthcare-specific demonstration of a solution that leverages the Oracle Internet of Things and other Cloud services as means of incorporating real world healthcare and wellbeing data into traditional healthcare IT environments. This data will enable clinicians to consider remote and home-based medical device data, as well as fitness and activity data to be used to enrich data collected at the point of care and provide valuable insights and opportunities for early intervention and reduction in hospitalisation and adverse events.
