Welcome to AUSOUG Cloud Apps Series 2023

This year we are organising 6-8 Oracle Application Cloud User Groups.

The User Groups will be hosted in various locations across Australia and will be an in-person event, which also will be live streamed for anyone to follow.

Each User Group will have a bespoke theme with various subject matter experts as presenters.

We encourage people to attend in person, to mix and mingle, to network and continue the debate.

The objective is to re-energize the Oracle Community, share knowledge, learn and network.

Strictly no recruiting, poaching, selling or pitching.

With that, we want the key Oracle players and partners in Australia to get involved, through either

  • Sponsoring an event (provide meeting room, simple catering, and support with co-advertising and PR activities)
  • Become a sub-committee member (help organise the events and get to know great people)
  • Be a speaker (share your knowledge and experience)

Please contact clodapps@ausoug.org.au for more information
We would like to thank to all our guests speakers and everyone who attended Cloud Apps Series 2023

The lost art of physical DB design from Bit Bucket to Insane Performance

It’s never been easier to launch into building your applications on the Oracle Database. Just a few clicks and your Oracle Database is ready to go. But when those applications we build become the overnight sensation that we always dreamt about, it is often the case that the schemas we designed on a paper napkin and implemented on day 1 might not live up to the flexibility, maintainability and performance demands the database can offer at the very moment we need it most – when more and more customers are clamouring for our amazing app! This session walks through the tools to rapid prototype and deploy your database schema, and how to evolve that design to handle increasing demands over time.

New DB features you’re probably not using

In this session, we’ll look at five things you might not have known about the Oracle Database – or that you might have known about but never realized how they could benefit you. For each topic, we will provide a detailed explanation of the functionality and demonstrated the benefits using real-world examples. After this session, we hope that you’ll understand a little more about these features and how they’ll benefit you and your organization.

Bullet-proof database backup and recovery with Oracle Zero Data Loss Recovery Appliance X9M

This session provides an overview of the latest Zero Data Loss Recovery Appliance X9M.

Storage solutions for protecting business data do not easily meet the needs of mission critical enterprise databases. Potential loss of business data after a restore, heavy load on production servers for backups of VLDB’s and the inability to both validate database level recoverability as well as scale up to meet the needs of ever-expanding databases are some of the common challenges faced.

Oracle’s Zero Data Loss Recovery Appliance (ZDLRA) is a ground-breaking data protection solution that tightly integrates with the Oracle Database to address these requirements to eliminate completely any possibility of data loss as well as  dramatically reduces data protection overhead on production servers.

In addition, the Recovery Appliance continually validates the integrity and recoverability of the data, scales to protect thousands of databases, and protects backups across the full lifecycle, including disk backup, cloud archiving, remote replication and tape archiving.

Another Two Years with APEX – APEX latest and greatest features

Oracle’s low code platform Application Express (APEX) keeps on going from strength to strength, rolling out new features at a yearly cadence.  There’s a lot of new features available each year, and more coming down the pipeline.

Thanks to popular request, and as Oracle APEX is very popular in Perth, AUSOUG has invited Jeff & Scott to talk to the Perth dev community about their favourite features that have arrived in the last 2 years, and a sneak peak of features yet to come.

Data Mesh or Data Mess?

Data mesh is a business data strategy with a paradigm shift from thinking of data as an asset, to thinking of data as a product. It is a decentralized data architecture with the goal of providing access to trusted data as quickly as possible to improve business decisions and outcomes. We’ll compare the data mesh architecture to familiar data management constructs such as data marts, data warehouses, data lakes and even data lake-houses. Along the way you’ll get to see data mesh concepts in practice with demos from the Oracle Cloud Data Platform.
